The Otsu Matsuri in Shiga

The Otsu Matsuri in Shiga prefecture is a festival of the Tenson Shrine.
It is said to have originated in the early Edo period (1603-1867) when Jihei Shiouri of Kajiya-cho danced wearing a mask of a raccoon dog.

All of the current 13 floats were made during the Edo period,
and each float is characterized by the "karakuri dolls" that ride on it.

They are assembled one week before the festival and
dismantled the day after the main festival.

Interesting isn't it?
