Osechi-ryori," (おせち料理)Japanese traditional dishes for New year
Each of these dishes has a special meaning and plays an important role in celebrating the New Year in Japan.
This year I bought gorgeous Osechi at a local Japanese restaurant!!
Kuromame黒豆 (Black Soybeans):
These symbolize health and hard work. Eating black beans is believed to bring a year of good health and the ability to work diligently.
Kazunoko 数の子(Herring Roe): Represents fertility and family prosperity. The numerous eggs symbolize a wish for many children and a prosperous family.
Datemaki 伊達巻(Sweet Rolled Omelette): Symbolizes culture and learning. The scroll-like shape is associated with knowledge and refinement, wishing for wisdom and education.
Tazukuri 田作り(Candied Sardines): A wish for a bountiful harvest. These small fish, used historically to fertilize rice fields, are associated with a rich harvest.
Kurikinton栗きんとん (Chestnut and Sweet Potato Mash): Symbolizes wealth and prosperity. The golden color of the dish is thought to invite financial good fortune.
Tataki Gobo たたきゴボウ (Pounded Burdock Root): Represents family stability and health. The deep roots of the burdock symbolize a strong family foundation.
Sunomono 酢の物(Vinegared Dish): A wish for longevity. Vinegar, known for its preservative qualities, represents enduring health and a long life. Simmered
Shrimp エビ: Symbolizes a long life, as the bent shape of the shrimp resembles that of an elderly person. It's a wish to live a long and healthy life.
Kamaboko かまぼこ (Fish Cake): Represents the sunrise and a bright future. The red and white colors are celebratory and are believed to bring happiness and a positive outlook.
Matsumaezuke 松前漬け (Pickled Dish): A dish symbolizing longevity and progress, often associated with the pine tree, which is a symbol of endurance and prosperity.
My kids do not know the meaning.it's very interesting!!
